ABOUT
Hua Xiao is a Professor in the Department of Physiology. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of liver and breast cancer development.
Dr. Xiao received his M.D. from the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai. He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular and Medical Genetics from the University of Toronto and completed his postdoctoral training at the Rockefeller University.
RESEARCH
The Xiao Lab studies the regulatory mechanisms and signal transduction pathways pertaining to the RNA polymerase II machinery and modulators of transcription, such as estrogen receptors and transcription cofactors that are involved in tumorigenesis. Dr. Xiao seeks to understand the transcriptional mechanisms underlying normal cell growth and apoptosis, and the dysregulation leading to tumorigenesis. Ongoing studies involve the characterization of a newly identified tumor suppressor TIP30, and its associated factor CIA (an estrogen receptor-interacting co-activator) and their role in the oncogenesis of breast and liver cancer.
