ABOUT
Jeffrey Klomp is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Klomp received his Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Van Andel Research Institute. He completed postdoctoral training at the University of Chicago and University of Illinois Chicago. Prior to joining MSU, he served as an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
RESEARCH
Dr. Klomp’s research focuses on how cancer cells utilize the RAS oncogene to persist and proliferate. RAS is mutationally activated in most cases of pancreas cancer and many other cancers. Dr. Klomp and colleagues have shown RAS-dependent proliferation is primarily through ERK MAPK signaling to a diverse set of effector proteins. Current work is directed at mechanisms by which RAS-ERK programming is maintained in lieu of RAS activity, as occurs with intrinsic and acquired resistance to RAS inhibitors. To address these questions, the Klomp Lab employs various genomic and pharmacological tools in preclinical models of pancreatic cancer.
