ABOUT

Masako Harada is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her research investigates extracellular vesicle (EV) biology and engineers EVs as drug delivery cargo for oligonucleotide therapeutics and small molecule drugs.

Dr. Harada received her Ph.D. in experimental oncology from Karolinska Institute in Sweden and completed her postdoctoral training at Stanford University. She is a faculty member within MSU’s Institute for Quantitative Health Science & Engineering.

RESEARCH

The Harada Lab seeks to understand the biology and function of extracellular vesicles (EVs) both in the physiological and pathophysiological condition, aiming to develop a novel tool for diagnostics and treatment. This group investigates engineered EVs for visualization, monitoring, and targeted-delivery of oligonucleotide therapeutics, including non-coding RNAs (microRNAs), DNAs and CRISPR-CAS9 as well as low-molecular-weight drugs.
