ABOUT

Katie Martin is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology. Her research focuses on mTOR pathway biology, including the role of autophagy in cancer cell survival.

Dr. Martin received her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from MSU. Prior to joining MSU as an Assistant Professor, she was a Scientific Project Leader at the Van Andel Research Institute.

RESEARCH

Dr. Martin’s research integrates multiple technologies and tools to measure the effects of molecularly targeted agents on autophagic flux in numerous tumor types. The goal of these studies is to determine the impact of autophagy inhibition for new therapeutic strategies. Additionally, Dr. Martin has characterized the genomic landscape of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). This molecular catalog of TSC gives insight into the origin of TSC lesions and provides a framework for characterizing complex tumor syndromes.
