ABOUT
Houtan Noushmehr is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University and a Senior Scientist and Professor at Henry Ford Hospital. His research centers on epigenomics and DNA methylation profiling of central nervous system tumors, with a focus on glioma classification, tumor evolution, and translational diagnostics. He earned a M.S. in Bioinformatics from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. in Cancer Genetics from the University of Southern California. Before joining Henry Ford and MSU, he completed postdoctoral training at USC and served as an Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
RESEARCH
Dr. Noushmehr’s research focuses on understanding how epigenomic alterations, particularly DNA methylation, define the biology, classification, and clinical behavior of central nervous system tumors. His work integrates large-scale methylation profiling, computational modeling, and liquid biopsy approaches to improve tumor diagnosis, prognostication, and disease monitoring, with a strong emphasis on gliomas. By bridging molecular biology with clinical application, his research aims to translate epigenetic insights into robust, clinically deployable tools that inform patient management and precision neuro-oncology.
