ABOUT

Eric A. Mellon, M.D., Ph.D., is a physician-scientist and Professor Research of Radiology at Michigan State University, with a clinical appointment at Henry Ford Health, where he serves as Senior Member and Translational Research Vice-Chair of Radiation Oncology.

He is a board-certified radiation oncologist specializing in brain, spine, and skull base tumors. Dr. Mellon leads multidisciplinary, multi-institutional research programs integrating advanced imaging, radiotherapy, and molecular biomarkers to improve precision cancer care. He is actively involved in national clinical trials, mentoring trainees, and building collaborative translational research infrastructure across MSU and Henry Ford Health.

RESEARCH

Dr. Mellon’s research focuses on imaging-guided precision radiotherapy for brain and spine tumors, with particular emphasis on glioblastoma. His work integrates advanced MRI techniques, including spectroscopic MRI and MRI-guided adaptive radiotherapy, with clinical trials and translational biomarker studies. He leads multi-omics and radiomics efforts linking imaging, tissue, and blood-based biomarkers to treatment response and toxicity. His laboratory and clinical programs emphasize cross-disciplinary collaboration between radiation oncology, radiology, engineering, and the physical sciences.
