ABOUT

David Hickey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. His research focuses on understanding molecular interactions at electrode interfaces.

Dr. Hickey received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Oklahoma, and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Utah.

RESEARCH

The Hickey Lab combines computational and experimental approaches to design exogenous electron transport pathways that allow electroenzymatic biosensors to operate in less than 100 nm of space. This research will enable continuous measurement of signaling molecules between cells, for example, specific neurotransmitters within a synapse or bioanalytes at a host-pathogen interface. In cancer, the lab aims to develop novel techniques and methodologies for reliably detecting the most aggressive forms of cancer in its earliest stages.
