ABOUT
Stephen L. Brown, Ph.D., is the Division Head of the Radiation Biology Laboratories in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Henry Ford Health in Detroit. He serves as the co-Leader of the Translational Oncology Group, comprising 100+ physicians and scientists involved in translational cancer research, at the Henry Ford Cancer Center. Dr. Brown is also a Professor in the Department of Radiology in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.
Dr. Brown has a B.Sc. in Physics from The University of Waterloo, Canada and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto.
RESEARCH
Dr. Brown’s research group focuses on improving cancer outcomes by increasing the effectiveness of radiation therapy: reducing normal tissue toxicity and testing anti-cancer strategies in pre-clinical models and clinical studies. The work spans preclinical studies and human clinical studies, often leveraging advanced imaging. Current projects include evaluating radioprotective agents, investigating ultra–high dose rate (FLASH) radiation for normal tissue sparing, supporting clinical gene therapy translational studies, and studying radiation-induced acute vascular changes in tumors following single-fraction exposure.
