Paulo Vilar Saavedra an Assistant Professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences within the College of Veterinary Medicine, and Chief of the Oncology Service.
Dr. Vilar received his D.V.M. from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He continued his postgraduate education with an M.S. from the Ohio State University and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at USC. Dr. Vilar completed his Medical Oncology Residency at Michigan State University and Virginia Tech, and is board-certified by the American College of Internal Medicine, Oncology Specialty.
Dr. Vilar has conducted thromboelastography studies on coagulation abnormalities and paraneoplastic syndromes. Dr. Vilar’s research interests encompass development of novel and effective therapies for various malignancies in animals and humans. He has participated in multiple clinical trials, as well as in investigating first-in-patient applications of novel agents. His recent studies include examination of the intestinal microbiome in response to different chemotherapeutics and the development of GI complications.
